Skin Care Products for Acne Prone Skin

It can be overwhelming navigating one’s way through the thousands of skin care products all claiming to be the best. With my focus on achieving a clearer skin, I’ve gone through many serums, gels and cleansers with varying results. Trying to find a balance between all-natural ingredients and products that actually work for my skin, here is a list of the products I currently use and love.

Sukin-Oil Balancing Purifying Gel Cleanser ($12.95)

Sukin is one of my favourite skin care brands as they use plant-based ingredients and omit many chemicals commonly found in other skin care products. I use this cleanser in the morning and at night to rid my skin of impurities. This cleanser is made specifically for acne-prone skin. The gel is black with no real smell and it is gentle for sensitive skin like mine.

Sukin- Oil Balancing Mattifying Facial Moisturiser ($12.95)

This moisturiser is in the same Oil Balancing range as the gel cleanser. The moisturiser is a thick white paste but it rubs on clear.

Witch hazel ($6.95)

Found in North America, witch hazel is a plant with great anti-inflammatory properties and is one of the most effective natural acne treatments available. I use witch hazel as an everyday toner in the morning and at night to fight acne and for a clearer face. I place the liquid in a spray bottle for easy usage.

Clinique Superprimer ($50)

I am slightly addicted to primers, and even wear a primer on days that I go makeup- free. This primer, which gives a nice glow to the face and is also colour-correcting, is a thick white gel that is easily applied to the face.

Aesop Chamomile Concentrate Anti-Blemish Masque ($45)

I use this Aesop masque twice a week. It is slightly on the pricy side, but it works wonders for my skin. The Masque is a clay-like colour which becomes transparent on the skin and then turns white when it dries. Because the masque is clear when applied to the skin, I find it difficult to apply an even layer. Also, the masque has a strong smell that I don’t mind, but it does affect some people.
